Every year since 2015 the Society for the Study of Emerging Markets has been holding a session at the ASSA meetings. In 2017, the Society featured a panel on “Finance and Development in Emerging Economies” chaired and organized by Ali M. Kutan.
Stijn Claessens of the Federal Reserve Board, Asli Demirguc-Kunt of the World Bank, Carmen Reinhart of Harvard University and Sergio Schmukler of the World Bank were the invited panelists and over 60 economists participated in the panel. The panelists presented papers on capital flows, debt, business cycles and financial crises in emerging economies, as well as the role of China in the global economy. They also answered questions from participants.
